The Administration for Community Living (ACL) has reported an increase in government imposter scammer calls, specifically targeting older adults. These callers claim to be from government agencies, such as Medicare or Social Security, but are in reality seeking to steal valuable personal information. The ACL reminds everyone that:
- The government will never call out of the blue to ask for a Social Security number.
- The government will never ask for payment by gift card nor wire transfer.
- Social Security numbers cannot be suspended.
